Furthermore, the options behind these three are stacked too.... Veerman, Q. Timber, Wieffer, Stengs. This gives Koeman a lot of possibilities to mix-and-match. I feel like Q. Timber is/will be a very nice piece of the puzzle --- he's becoming my favorite these days, a ball-carrier with excellent passing and pressure mentality like a pit bull! No room for Gini Wijnaldum in my opinion - though I think Koeman will keep him for his experience/leadership. Same argument for De Roon.
I was wondering the same... couldn't find any article explaining as to why he didn't travel with the team to the UCL match v Atletico. Maybe he re-aggravated his old injury. FotMob app is showing he's out until mid-May which I am not sure it's accurate.
As the season is coming to the end, it is frustrated that Koeman has bet on the wrong player or unable to integrate the right player into his system. De Ligt is going to CL semi final and he is still struggling in Koeman's system. He gave too much time to Geertruida who I think a level behind De Ligt. Same goes for Frimpong who just won Bundesliga and going to Europa semi final. I likes Dumfries but he did not play much this season. Xavi Simons and Teun Koopmeiners are having amazing season but Koeman still does not know how to utilize them. And Maatsen is overlooked and not even considered when he was in Bundesliga team of the month and going to CL semi final. Feel like bad choices left and right. I hope he can turn around but time is running out.
I agree completely with Q Timber however I have huge doubts about Veerman Wieffer and Stengs. Veerman is too slow, lacks athletically for this higher level, and is poor defensively. Wieffer has a tremendous work rate, but is sloppy on the ball, and is a bit of a hack. That said I have hope for him, but he’s scary at this point playing for Oranje. Stengs is just too weak and soft. There are much better options than him I believe He’s improved under Slot, but I don’t think he’s good enough for Oranje still. I also think your correct about Gini and De Roon who will likely make the final roster. All of these injuries, and Koeman’s unknown tactical ideas and formations are making things look very shaky as we get closer to the Euros.
I view Veerman as a natural back-up for Frenkie in the deep-lying playmaker role, albeit a poor man's version.... he's not going to start for Koeman when everyone is healthy. But when Frenkie is tired in the last 10-15 minutes of the match, Veerman can come in and do the job just fine. Agreed that he's quite slow, but he's a decent creator with good vision and passing range. Could come handy in the counter-attack situations when the opponent's defense runs out of gas. And set-pieces. BTW - I unintentionally left out Schouten in my post re: Oranje midfielder option yesterday. He is also a nice player to have around... Mature in his game, proven winner at club level, plenty of experience outside Eredivisie and versatile (can fill in CB in case of emergency).
With the lack of wingers up front (we are down to Memphis, Gakpo, Malen), I really hope Koeman find a way to call up and use Maatsen and Frimpong better. Both can push high up like wingers. I prefer Maatsen and Frimpong than Berghuis and Bergwijn.
I think with zirkzee and brobbery that front line will be solid. It's the midfield that's needs alteration and plus maatsen at LB instead of that slack ass blind
36569 📸 - Frenkie de Jong is extremely emotional. It's looking really bad. pic.twitter.com/ZmCFPNQ2eK— 𝐀𝐅𝐂 𝐀𝐉𝐀𝐗 💎 (@TheEuropeanLad) April 21, 2024 Hope it's a scare like with Stengs and it turns out to be not that bad.
It might be a broken ankle Fede Valverde's shot had so much power that De Jong got stretchered off just by the mere touch of it 😂Anyways, get well soon Frenkie!https://t.co/ARRA8maluf— Tamoghna(Inactive) (@ReyesDeUniverso) April 21, 2024
It's time to move on from frenkie. Injuries are starting to take its toll on his body. He definitely wont be the same after recovering from two successive major injuries.ets not forget about the changes strootman went through. Time to call up matusiwa and Gus hamer. Gravenberch any thoughts???
ESPN is reporting that Frenkie will miss the remainder of the season, but should be ready for Euro. Not ideal, but I will take that!! Oranje is never the same without Frenkie. He is the maestro.
Recovery time is usually 3 to 6 weeks 🚨| OFFICIAL: Frenkie de Jong has a right ankle sprain. #fcblive pic.twitter.com/hgZiIGN3RC— BarçaTimes (@BarcaTimes) April 22, 2024
FCB says 5 weeks https://www.telegraaf.nl/sport/2092909772/fc-barcelona-geeft-update-over-blessure-frenkie-de-jong
Oranje Euro 2004 injury watch. Memphis seems to be on track for early May return. Malen is now listed as having a thigh injury, the expected return is mid May. The tough news, of course, is Frenkie de Jong.... 5-6 weeks will put him to late May. Oranje first match in Euro is June 16th (v. Poland).
J. Timber made his comeback appearance (for Arsenal u23) after a long layoff and scored a goal in the process… lack of competitive/first team experience will likely keep him out of Euro, nonetheless, good news! Maybe he will be on the standby list.
And WHAT a goal!! Wowza.. what a goal. Welcome back @JurrienTimber 🚀🚀 pic.twitter.com/ky6l0SYLEJ— Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) April 22, 2024
I actually think there is some truth here. Frenkie is amazing - but the injuries are starting to come more frequently it seems. It’s not a good sign.
Definitely a concern when getting injured, but it’s part and parcel of today’s game with so many matches being played and the likelihood is that rest is hard to come by. Regarding Frenkie he brings a special quality that is clearly not appreciated or respected by some out there for whatever reason, but his ability to play under pressure and bring the ball out of the back is of the highest order in the world today. He doesn’t score much unfortunately, or get forward enough either, but that is because he brings a different skill set for Barca and Oranje that again is at the top level in the sport.
His last injury was a bit of a fluke. Strange collision that got his foot tangled up. I dont see how you can drop our best creative midfielder since Sneijder because of that. Frenkie will be fine. Plus he'll be nicely rested when the Euro starts
